‘Life is Pain Without You’: Cary Elwes Pays Tribute to His Director

Writing on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who was featured in Reiner's iconic movie *The Princess Bride*, stated he only now felt able to post publicly about his personal sorrow.

"Sufficient time has elapsed that I can finally express my sorrow into words," wrote Elwes, noting that his initial encounter with Reiner created an instant bond. "Once we started spending more time together I knew this was someone I longed to have in my life."

The actor shared archival material from the movie, commenting that he could not remember "one day without mirth".

"The movie is about affection, allegiance and giving. Principles that Rob held dear. This is one of the many reasons he was the ideal person to guide it," Elwes wrote.

He additionally honored Michele Reiner, noting: "To say that they were a great team would be an oversimplification. My heart still pangs every time I remember you." He concluded with a line from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but existence is agony without you."

Martin Scorsese Remembers a Colleague and Comrade

In a distinct tribute, revered director Martin Scorsese shared memories of Reiner, whom he first met in the 1970s.

"Right away, I loved being with Rob. We had a instant connection for each other. He was very funny and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would take over the room," Scorsese wrote.

Scorsese mentioned Reiner's supporting role in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, playing the father of the lead role.

This week, a Los Angeles superior court judge decided to block the release of the Reiners' autopsy reports, after an appeal from the local authorities.

A court order issued a security hold on the investigation to restrict the public release of "related notes, evidence and photographs" associated with the probe.

The Medical Examiner's office had already determined their deaths were the outcome of homicide, with a record citing the cause as "injuries from a sharp object".

Former President Donald Trump posted on the matter, making divisive statements that were widely condemned by several commentators.

Podcaster Joe Rogan contributed his voice to the those speaking out last week. Speaking on his podcast, Rogan described the remarks as "disappointing" and implied they demonstrated a troubling deficiency of sympathy.

Rogan concluded by suggesting that an associate should have stepped in when the impulse to speak on the tragedy was made.
