Reigning Aryna Sabalenka Claims Consecutive WTA Player of the Year Awards.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second straight season.
The 27-year-old captured four titles – the most on tour – including successfully defending the US Open this past September against Amanda Anisimova to claim her fourth Grand Slam singles triumph.
A Season of Consistency
Over the course of the tour, Sabalenka competed in a tour-best nine championship matches, with losses coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The Belarusian also triumphed at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the whole season as the world number one, concluding 2025 atop the rankings for a second successive year.
This past summer, she became the first player to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams in 2015.
Record-Breaking Achievements
Sabalenka finished the season with a sixty-three to twelve match record, and earned a historic eleven million pounds in tournament winnings.
She garnered nearly 80% of the votes submitted by global tennis journalists.
Later this month, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match with the aim of "raise women's tennis to a greater prominence".
Additional WTA Award Recipients
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, was voted after taking extended hiatus following the arrival of her daughter and making her comeback to the sport earlier this season.
- Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko picked up the award after starting the season ranked outside the world's top 300 and rising to world number 18.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after securing their second career Grand Slam title together.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after reaching five finals.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz won three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was voted the fan favorite for a third time.
